Celebrate Spring Break with us at PTMSC!
April 3 – 7
Wednesday – Sunday
11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Wednesday April 3, 2024
Nature Printing Party!
Join us for nature printing! Make a print with seaweed, ferns, or a (fake) salmon. All supplies provided.
We’ll have paper to print on, but bringing your own t-shirts, bags, or whatever you want to print on is more than welcome!
Talk to Fort Worden’s Interpretive Ranger, Kelsey, about animal tracks, tree rings, and other interesting evidence nature leaves behind!
Thursday April 4, 2024
Bone Bonanza!
Have you ever seen a Northern Elephant Seal Skeleton? The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will have on display a fully articulated Northern Elephant Seal recovered by the Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
Alongside the Northern Elephant Seal, other marine mammal skeletons and skulls will be on display.
No additional supplies will be needed to gaze upon the skeletons of the many different marine mammals.
Friday April 5, 2024
Sea and Shore Investigation!
Among the nearshore foliage of the Pacific Northwest hides alien plant species that can disrupt the ecosystem. Learn from our guided nature walk which plants should stay, and which are invasive.
For those who want a more relaxed outdoor experience, one can join in birdwatching. Some specimens in our museum can serve as a guide for what birds you may see in the water right now.
Most of these activities will be outdoors, so it is highly recommended to bring water and a pair of good walking shoes.
We have binoculars you can borrow, but you are always welcome to bring your own equipment to birdwatch!
Saturday & Sunday April 6-7, 2024
Spring Break Science!
Explore hidden microscopic worlds! Use our microscopes to check out a bug’s wing, look at plankton swimming through water, or see what grains of sand look like up close. Have your own items you are interested in looking at? Bring them in!
Help us beautify our museum sidewalks by adding a drawing to our collaborative chalk mural
Explore the beach with a special Spring Break scavenger hunt!
