Talk to Fort Worden’s Interpretive Ranger, Kelsey, about animal tracks, tree rings, and other interesting evidence nature leaves behind!

Bone Bonanza!
Have you ever seen a Northern Elephant Seal Skeleton? The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will have on display a fully articulated Northern Elephant Seal recovered by the Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
Alongside the Northern Elephant Seal, other marine mammal skeletons and skulls will be on display.
No additional supplies will be needed to gaze upon the skeletons of the many different marine mammals.
Friday April 5, 2024
Sea and Shore Investigation!
Among the nearshore foliage of the Pacific Northwest hides alien plant species that can disrupt the ecosystem. Learn from our guided nature walk which plants should stay, and which are invasive.
For those who want a more relaxed outdoor experience, one can join in birdwatching. Some specimens in our museum can serve as a guide for what birds you may see in the water right now.
Most of these activities will be outdoors, so it is highly recommended to bring water and a pair of good walking shoes.
We have binoculars you can borrow, but you are always welcome to bring your own equipment to birdwatch!
Saturday & Sunday April 6-7, 2024
Spring Break Science!
Explore hidden microscopic worlds! Use our microscopes to check out a bug’s wing, look at plankton swimming through water, or see what grains of sand look like up close. Have your own items you are interested in looking at? Bring them in!
Help us beautify our museum sidewalks by adding a drawing to our collaborative chalk mural
Explore the beach with a special Spring Break scavenger hunt!

Port Townsend Marine Science CenterAt the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center fulfills its mission of empowering conservation for a thriving Salish Sea by welcoming people to discover and delight in the incredible biodiversity of this body of water. Since 1982 we have introduced hundreds of thousands of people to the wonders of the Salish Sea through our exhibits and programs at Fort Worden State Park and, since 2022, at the Flagship Landing building in downtown Port Townsend. The Port Townsend Marine Science Center fulfills its mission of “empowering conservation for a thriving Salish Sea” through engaging exhibits, hands-on educational programs, and vital citizen science projects. Over 20,000 people every year are inspired by live marine animals and an orca skeleton in the Museum at Fort Worden State Park, and rotating exhibits in the Gallery downtown. Thousands more participate in school programs, summer camps, low-tide walks, a lecture series, wildlife cruises, and sustainability workshops.info@ptmsc.org 532 Battery Way, Port Townsend WA, USA 98368
