For painting in oils or acrylics, this class explores abstract landscapes using cold wax or gel medium. Cold wax medium gives your oil paints a finish reminiscent of encaustic, with more ease and safety. Kari will explain the parameters of the materials, review useful tools, and demonstrate various techniques–collage, monoprint, mark-making and more, that we might not be using in our current painting practice. The medium of cold wax is not applicable to acrylic paint, but many of the same techniques can be used with acrylics and other add-ins, such as gel medium, which we will talk about. This is a mixed media approach which you can adapt to either oils or acrylics, using lots of layering and playing. There will be plenty of time for questions and, as you will not be painting within this lecture/Q & A format, no need to buy materials. However, if you do want to try some techniques and tools during the lecture, Kari will send you a supply list, but this is optional.
We’ll have a Q and A period, so bring your questions!
