Event Details

In this two-part workshop students will be introduced to the art of developing site-specific installations in the public realm – which always begins with a good idea and a specific location.

During the first session we will look at examples of site-specific installations from several artists, discuss the process under which these projects evolved from early concepts to realized projects, and begin the process of developing individual students’ ideas – to be presented during the second session. The second session will be focused on the development of a unique project concept — students will be asked to present their unique project ideas, conceptual reasoning, and implementation strategies for general feedback and group discussion. Recent Centrum Artist-in-Residence Aaron Asis created the “Fort Words” installation throughout Fort Worden here in Port Townsend, WA. He was born in New York City and spent his childhood exploring the city, its people, and its streets. Over the years these explorations evolved from personal interests to a creative mission committed to interaction through the arts as a means of building authentic relationships at the intersection of public interests, community efforts, and governmental actions. The mission of this work is focused on sharing underutilized spaces, engaging new ideas, and collaborating with city agencies and community groups to showcase the ability of art to connect us all.
