Event Details

In this talk, David explores how his love of Japanese culture, travel, textiles and “blue and white” came together in a fantastic journey to Japan. This talk emphasizes Japanese textiles, with a few brief forays into architecture and Japanese cuisine. Traditional techniques such as katazome (paste-resist dyeing) and shibori (bound or stitch resist dyeing) will be explored.

David will show his modern quilts and paper-based stitched artwork that he created with shibori and indigo dye, and will talk about how his particular modern design approach is influenced by Japan.

This is an excellent introduction to Japanese textiles, and is a nice appetizer for the upcoming 3-day Japan + Quilts Symposium, Oct. 2-4, 2020, at PtSA.
