Most people recognize Georgia O’Keeffe’s distinctive flower paintings. Many people have seen her famous skull paintings. However, she painted over 2,000 pieces in her lifetime, and many of those paintings were landscapes, both realistic and abstract.
This class will provide students with time to view and interpret two O’Keeffe paintings. We will discuss the idea of landscapes, and a connection with physical spaces that inspire us. We will explore the contrast between landscapes that are formless and atmospheric, as well as recognizable, literal landscapes. Students will learn landscape drawing and painting techniques as we work with pencil and watercolor. Everyone in the class will be supported in painting a landscape that expresses their creative imagination!
