Event Details

In this 4-week series of VIRTUAL PLEIN AIR lessons, you will use a photo of a woodsy creek which will be supplied by Julie, but you are welcome to use your own reference material if you wish. You will be able to watch a short video clip on You Tube of the same spot where the photo was taken so you can see the movement of the water in action and hear its music! Learn how to make water look wet and splashy as it cascades over rocks and boulders. The “anatomy” of a waterfall” will be studied, including techniques demonstrated to address the various puzzles with which the artist is faced when painting this stunning, fascinating and challenging subject!

Lessons will focus on:

  • Choosing a composition

  • Maintaining the plein air “feel” and sensitivity in your painting

  • Using your photo as inspiration rather than absolute visual fact

  • Brush- and knife-work

  • Creative use of color – using “color as value” (as seen in her three North Light books)

There will be demos, instruction at all levels, one-on-one critique and painting time during the class. All levels are welcome and encouraged to join. The only prerequisite is an attitude of joy in the act of painting. Class time will be structured, yet open enough to accommodate the artistic spirit within us all!

ABOUT JULIE: A frequent award winner, Julie’s work is included in numerous private and corporate collections. Julie is the author of Author of 3 North Light Books: Discover Oil Painting, Watercolor Unleashed, and Brilliant Color. She has also created nine North Light/Artists Network Painting Videos.

This lecture will be available through Zoom technology. You will need to download the free Zoom application (https://zoom.us) prior to the class. A stable internet connection provides the best experience.
